November 2016 Andy Murray World Number 1 Andy Murray recorded his 24th consecutive victory on Sunday to historically become the first British man, and IC of GB member, to end the year as the world number 1. He defeated Novak Djokovic, 6-3 6-4, at London’s O2 Arena, to end Djokovic’s 4 year run at the end of year tournament. Murray’s maiden Barclays ATP World Tour Finals title and year end world number 1 spot, topped off a fantastic year, where he was crowned Wimbledon Champion for the second time, as well as successfully defending his Olympic Title in Rio. But there was also success, for Andy’s older brother and fellow IC of GB member, Jamie Murray. After successfully reaching the doubles semi-finals at the O2 arena, Jamie Murray also ends the year at the top of the rankings, with Brazilian partner Bruno Soares. This marks a historical moment, as it is the first time that two British men, and even more impressively, two brothers have simultaneously occupied the world number one spots. Many congratulations to both Andy and Jamie from all of the IC. Previous Article Osamu Ishiguro Next Article IC of New Zealand - 60th Anniversary Celebrations
